An Expert Session of the Mayors’ Club was held on the topic: “UNIDO Initiatives to Support the Green Reconstruction of Ukraine – The Role of Municipalities”

Under the pressure of climate change and the need for sustainable development, Ukraine faces the challenge of green reconstruction of its cities and communities. In this process, UNIDO plays an important role by cooperating with the country’s municipalities to implement concrete initiatives. As part of the initiative presented by Pavlo Ladetskyi, National Technical Coordinator of the UN project in Ukraine, there is a strong commitment to making communities in Ukraine more sustainable and productive. This is a vital step toward building a resilient future for the country.
One of UNIDO’s key initiatives is the development of green technologies and an energy-efficient economy. This initiative aims to support commercial and industrial development, particularly through environmentally friendly production and global food supply.

Municipalities play a key role in the implementation of these initiatives. They are actively involved in developing new methodologies, standards, and technologies for an effective green economy. Additionally, municipalities receive support in deploying technologies and formulating policy standards for green reconstruction.
The initiatives of UNIDO and the Ministry of Economy are aimed at implementing green reconstruction at the national level. This includes the adaptation and integration of European standards into Ukrainian legislation for the agricultural sector.

To encourage municipalities to participate in green initiatives, support is provided for the implementation of green reconstruction projects. These initiatives aim to engage communities in waste and materials management projects to achieve a sustainable future. In the context of green energy, the initiatives focus on providing technical assistance for energy-efficient building renovations across Ukraine, the use of alternative energy sources, and the implementation of wind and solar energy projects. Given these initiatives, the role of municipalities becomes crucial in attracting investment for green reconstruction and aligning with European structures and standards to ensure the successful implementation of these efforts. Through cooperation with municipal leaders and active community engagement, UNIDO’s initiatives and the green reconstruction process are becoming a true catalyst for change in Ukraine’s sustainable development.

The speaker invited all communities across Ukraine to take part in a critically important survey, which will help maximize the benefits for communities in future UNIDO projects and programs.
