On November 23, a traditional expert session was held for the members of the Mayors’ Club on the topic: “Anti-Corruption Course. Presentation”

The speaker was Michael H. Huneke, a partner in the Anti-Corruption & Internal Investigations and Sanctions, Export Controls & Anti-Money Laundering practice groups at Hughes Hubbard & Reed. Michael advises clients on internal investigations related to anti-corruption laws and regulations, economic sanctions, and export controls; on the development and implementation of compliance programs; and on responding to criminal investigations.

In the area of anti-corruption, Michael has 18 years of experience in anti-corruption investigations and compliance. He is the co-author of a leading 800-page legal treatise on the subject, Anti-Corruption Regulation and Compliance: A Guide to the FCPA and Beyond, published by Bloomberg. Notably, he was recognized as one of four attorneys from Hughes Hubbard & Reed to receive the Global Investigations Review (GIR) award for “Most Important Development in the Practice or Law of International Investigations” in 2020 for his representation of Airbus in its historic settlement that successfully resolved bribery and corruption charges.

During the expert session, Michael addressed three main points:

  • He spoke about Hughes Hubbard & Reed, the firm he works at, which is developing the anti-corruption course for the members of the Mayors’ Club
  • The next stage of the session featured Michael discussing the history of corruption and explaining why corruption is harmful in various aspects of our lives
  • Finally, Michael shared the anti-corruption course plan for the members of the Mayors’ Club and spoke about its importance, emphasizing that only communities whose administrations have completed the anti-corruption course can earn the trust of foreign partners and investors
