In 2012, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 7th convocation in the 159th constituency from the Svoboda party. Since 2014, he has been a participant in the ATO, served as a platoon commander in the 92nd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and worked as a psychologist in a mechanized battalion. In 2014, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in constituency 162. He was not elected. In 2015, he ran for the Sumy Regional Council of the 7th convocation from Svoboda in constituency 38. He was not elected. In 2015, he was elected mayor of Konotop from Svoboda. On August 28, 2018, the Konotop City Council voted to dismiss Artem Semenikhin from his post, but on July 5, 2019, Semenikhin was reinstated. In 2019, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation as a self-nominated candidate in constituency 160. On June 27, 2019, Semenikhin, who was also a candidate for the parliament at the time, was attacked at night by unknown persons. In 2020, he ran for the Sumy Regional Council of the 8th convocation from the Svoboda political party. He was not elected. In 2020, he was elected as a deputy of the Konotop City Council of the 8th convocation on the list of the Svoboda party as the first candidate. Also in 2020, he ran for mayor of Konotop from Svoboda and came in second. In the re-election of 2021, he again ran for the position of Konotop mayor. He was elected.
